Since Uber, the world’s largest ride-hailing company, established a branch in South Africa in 2013, many local African start-ups have also joined the market. Entrepreneurs have been striving to localize Uber’s business model, offering passengers more convenient and affordable urban commuting solutions.
In many parts of Africa, heavy traffic congestion has made ride-hailing motorbike services a popular alternative. These agile motorbikes can navigate cities efficiently even during peak hours. More importantly, motorcycle-hailing services are significantly more affordable than car-based services like Uber and Bolt, making them an attractive option for daily commuters.
As competition in this sector intensified, various players sought to carve out their share of the market. Seizing this opportunity, our customer, Yego, expanded its business into Rwanda, quickly establishing itself as a dominant force with its advanced application and taximeter system.
However, as the industry grew, road safety emerged as a critical challenge. Traffic accidents involving motorcycles became increasingly frequent, prompting Yego to take proactive measures. Recognizing the importance of safety, Yego collaborated with the Rwandan government to regulate the ride-hailing sector and train drivers on traffic laws and road safety practices.
To support Yego in addressing these safety concerns, we introduced our IoT Smart Solution for Two-Wheeler Management. By integrating Jimi IoT’s JM-LL01 asset tracker, real-time data from motorcycles is transmitted to Yego’s cloud platform for analysis and visualization. This system enables both Yego and the government to gain deep insights into rider behavior, helping to identify those in need of safety training. Furthermore, with Live GPS tracking, stolen or lost motorbikes can be quickly recovered, enhancing fleet security. Our solution has significantly streamlined motorcycle monitoring and management for both Yego and government authorities, resulting in safer roads, more responsible riders, and a notable decrease in accidents.
JM-LL01: Advanced Tracking for Two-Wheeler Safety
Designed for long-term asset tracking, the JM-LL01 LTE Cat M1 & NB2 GNSS tracker is an ideal solution for two-wheeler management. Its ultra-long battery life—lasting up to three years on a single charge—ensures continuous monitoring without frequent maintenance. The strong magnetic mount allows for easy attachment to motorcycles, while its built-in light sensor sends an instant alert if the device is tampered with or removed, ensuring continuous security monitoring.
The JM-LL01 enables real-time tracking, geofencing, and theft prevention, empowering Yego to maintain operational efficiency while enhancing safety standards. Its low power consumption and LTE connectivity make it a reliable choice for businesses managing large fleets.
With Jimi IoT’s technology, Rwanda’s ride-hailing sector is becoming safer and more organized, reinforcing Yego’s commitment to passenger safety and regulatory compliance.
